Arvinder Preet Singh wins 8th N L Pandiyar Memorial Rating Open 2023

FM Arvinder Preet Singh, Kartik Kumar Singh, Prithvi Sharma and GM Swapnil Dhopade scored an unbeaten 8/9 each at 8th N L Pandiyar Memorial Rating Open 2023. Arvinder won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. Kartik was placed second and Swapnil third. 120th seeded Prithvi won the first prize in rating category 1300-1599. Arvinder drew against Kartik in the final round. Swapnil and Prithvi won against Santhosh Kumar Sinha and Sham R respectively in the final round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1501000. The top three prizes were ₹111000, ₹71000 and ₹71000 along with a trophy each. A total of 159 prizes were up for grabs. There were three prizes worth ₹1 lac and more. Arvinder's first tournament victory of the year, Prithvi impresses

Former World Amateur champion, FM Arvinder Preet Singh won his first tournament of 2023 at 8th N L Pandiyar Memorial Rating Open 2023. His last rating tournament triumph was a year three days ago which he won in Spain. 120th seeded Prithvi Sharma scored an impressive unbeaten 8/9. He finished third overall and won the first prize worth ₹101111 along with a trophy in rating category 1300-1599. He also gained a staggering 192.8 Elo rating points.

The opening ceremony was held on 15th of October in presence of Chief Guest - Mr. Sanjeev Bhardwaj, Organizing Chairman, Special Guest, Mr. Sanjay Bhatnagar. Other dignitaries present were - Adv. Mr. Praveen Kothari, Chess in Lakecity, Chief Patron, Mr. Tushar Mehta, IA FI Rajendra Teli, Vice President, RCA, IA NI Vikas Sahu, Organizing Secretary and IA Neelesh Kumawat, Chief Arbiter.

A total of 550 players including a GM and two IMs took part from various states across the country in this five-day nine round Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Chess in Lakecity at Orbit Resort in Udaipur, Rajasthan from 15th and 19th October 2023. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
