Pranesh gets a boost for his GM title journey with October 2021 YouTube memberships fund
Pranesh is one of the biggest talents in the country. The reason? The boy was born in 2006 and as on March 2020, he had an Elo of 2437, IM title and 1 GM norm. And this he did by playing most of his tournaments in India. Due to the pandemic its been 20 months since Pranesh played a rated game. Hailing from a humble background where his father is a Javuli worker and mother is an Anganwadi worker, Pranesh's GM dreams (2 GM norms and 63 Elo points left) need financial backing. That's the reason why the October fund of our YouTube memberships of Rs.62,194 goes to Pranesh for his upcoming Europe trip. Rs.45,000 are contributed by Prakhar Gupta and the total amount comes to Rs.1,07,194.
Pranesh - Raw Talent and a fire to become a GM
Meet M. Pranesh, one of India's most talented youngsters. Pranesh, born in 2006, hails from a small village called Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu and is studying in 10th grade at Shri Vidyaa Giri Mat. His father Munirethinam is a Javuli (clothing) shop worker in Karaikudi and mother Manjula is an Anganwadi worker. Pranesh hails from a very modest financial background. In spite of this, his list of achievements is simply fantastic!

Pranesh was taught chess by his mother when he was very young. The boy immediately picked up chess and his parents decided to take him to the nearest chess academy. Until Pranesh was 10 years old he worked with S. Atulan as his trainer. The boy would spend hours enjoying the game. Pranesh's elder brother Dineshrajan, who is now in his 1st year of engineering in B.tech, also played chess and was decently strong (current Elo of 1912). This gave Pranesh a practice partner at his home itself!
When Pranesh started to get stronger, he joined the Chess Gurukul Academy by GM R.B. Ramesh. Pranesh says, "As soon as I began working with Ramesh sir, my game improved very quickly and I became an IM. I am working hard with him to become a GM now."
We asked Grandmaster Ramesh about strengths of this young boy. This is what he had to say, "Extremely talented, very quick in thinking and calculating variations, can see very far ahead in analysis. Very original and a practical player. Got 2434 level rating in 2020 Aeroflot IM title n a GM norm. Since then has not played yet. Parents are not in great financial situation. He will come to Chennai for all the camps without fail. We recently had a camp with GMs and he was also a part of it and did very well."
Pranesh vs Savchenko, Aeroflot 2020
Pranesh vs Alan Pichot, HD Bank Cup 2019
Speaking to ChessBase India, Pranesh said, "I want to become a Grandmaster soon and for that I have to travel abroad, because that's where the tournaments are happening right now." But finances are a big hurdle for the youngster. That's the reason why we have decided to give our October YouTube memberships fund of Rs.62,194 to the youngster. He has planned three tournaments in December 2021 and January 2022. They are Sunway Sitges Open 2021 and Lorca Open 2021 in Spain and Vergani Cup 2022 in Italy.

It's been a year since we launched memberships and we have been able to help so many talented youngsters in need of funds - Savitha Shri, Karthik Venkat Krishna, Pranav V. , Ilamparthi, Sanjay Sivakumar, Marimuthu and now Pranesh.
Prakhar Gupta contributes Rs.45,000
When it comes to playing three tournaments in Europe the costs are quite high. That's the reason why we have decided to add Prakhar Gupta's Rs.45,000 to the October YouTube memberships fund and bring the total amount to Rs.107,194 which will be given to Pranesh.
Prakhar Gupta played chess when he was young and has a FIDE rating of 1461. He came back to chess in the lockdown and finished 3rd at the Comedians on Board 5 event organized by Samay Raina. Prakhar received Rs.90,000 for his effort, out of which he gave Rs.45,000 to Sahil Tickoo (his trainer) and Rs.45,000 to HelpChess Foundation, which we are using for Pranesh. Speaking to ChessBase India, Prakhar said, "I am very happy that the amount is being used for Pranesh. I hope he gets his GM norms soon and becomes the next GM of India."
We want to thank Prakhar and each and every person who has become a member of ChessBase India for their immense support. By using the amounts carefully and in a diligent manner, we together can make a huge difference!
