Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi and Gukesh still World no.4, 5 and 6
R Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi and D Gukesh maintained their places at World no.4, 5 and 6 respectively. Only R Praggnanandhaa among them gained Elo rating points. He increased his Elo rating point by six points at Grand Chess Tour Sinquefield Cup 2025. Nihal Sarin, Karthikeyan Murali and Abhimanyu Puranik, all three of them added valuable rating points at Quantbox Chennai Grand Masters 2025. They increased 1.2, 10.8 and 4.6 points. Currently, there are six Indians in Top 30. Among the Women, four are in Top 25. GM Divya Deshmukh became India no.2 as GM Harika Dronavalli dropped a bit of rating. IM Vantika Agrawal gained six points in the month of August. FIDE Grand Swiss starts in two days, so a lot of changes may occur in the next month's rating list. Eleven Indians in World Top 100
Currently, there are three Indians in World top 10, same as the last six months. India's top three players - R Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi and D Gukesh maintained their places in World no.4, 5 and 6 respectively. Among the Women, GM Divya Deshmukh moved up to India no.2. IM Vantika Agrawal gained six Elo rating points in the month of August.
Women: Divya Deshmukh is now India no.2
Four Indian women are in top 25. They are - GM Koneru Humpy, World no.5, GM Divya Deshmukh, World no.14, GM Harika Dronavalli, World no.19 and GM R Vaishali, World no.22 among women. Divya moved to India no.2 as Harika a bit of Elo rating points at Quantbox Chennai Grand Masters 2025 Challengers. IM Vantika Agrawal gained 6 Elo rating points in total in the month of August. There are currently eight Indians among the Top 100 women.
Countries
India had the no.2 position in August 2025 FIDE Rating list in terms of average rating of top ten players in the Open, only three Elo rating points behind the USA. The gap got increased by six more points in September.
