Prishita Gupta storms into World Top 100 and India Top 10 among Women in August 2025 FIDE Rating List

There is no change at the top in World rankings among Indian players. Wei Yi (CHN) had the sole rating change among World Top 10. GM Karthikeyan Murali gained 7.6 Elo rating points by winning 58th Biel Chess Festival Master Tournament (MTO). GM Aryan Chopra added 7 Elo rating points by finishing second at Aktobe Open 2025 Masters. There are a dozen Indians in World Top 100. Among the Women, GM Divya Deshmukh gained 15.2 Elo rating points en route her victory at FIDE Women's World Cup. IM Padmini Rout and WGM Nandhidhaa P V increased 10 and 14 points at the same event. A dozen Indians in World Top 100

Currently, there are three Indians in World top 10, same as the last five months. The top of the ratings did not witness a major shake up, almost none to be exact. 13-year-old WFM Prishita Gupta is the top gainer among Indians in August FIDE Rating list. She gained a staggering 135.28 Elo rating points in two events, earned her maiden WIM-norm, took her Elo rating to 2353, become India no.8 and World no.85 among Women. It goes without saying that she had a great July 2025.

Women: Divya returns to World no.15, Prishita storms into India Top 10 and World Top 100

Four Indian women are in top 20. They are - GM Koneru Humpy, World no.6, GM Harika Dronavalli, World no.12, GM Divya Deshmukh, World no.15 and GM R Vaishali, World no.18 among women. Divya gained 15.2 Elo rating points at FIDE Women's World Cup. IM Padmini Rout added 10 points at the same event. WFM Prishita Gupta increased a whopping 135.28 points from two events - Paris Masters and 2nd Dole Trophy Pasino Grand Aix Masters 2025. She also earned her maiden WIM-norm at the latter event. An interview with her will be published soon. WGM Nandhidhaa P V gained 14 Elo rating points at the Women's World Cup. There are currently ten Indians among the top 100 women.

India had the no.2 position in July 2025 FIDE Rating list in terms of average rating of top ten players in the Open, only four Elo rating points behind the USA. The gap got increased by 3 more points in July. August updates will be added when they are updated.
