Five Indians in World Top 20 - FIDE Rating list February 2024
FIDE publishes its rating list at the beginning of each month. February 2024 FIDE Rating list witnesses the highest number of Indians in the World Top 20. D Gukesh's fantastic performance at 86th Tata Steel Masters earned him 17.7 Elo rating points. He moved nine places from World no.25 to 16th. There are now five Indians in World Top 20. R Praggnanandhaa moved up one place to World no.13. Vidit Gujrathi maintained his place at no.14. Among the Women, GM Harika Dronavalli moved to World no.11. IM Divya Deshmukh moved to World no.38. Gukesh makes the biggest climb of the month
GM R Praggnanandhaa gained 4.4 Elo rating points at 86th Tata Steel Masters 2024. He moved up by one place to World no.13. He also became India no.1 in live ratings for a few days. GM Vidit Gujrathi gained 4.5 Elo rating points and maintained his rank as World no.4. He also became India no.1 in live ratings for a short time. GM D Gukesh's fantastic performance at the Wimbledon of Chess, earned him 17.7 Elo rating points. He made a massive jump from World no.25 to World no.16.
Women: Three in Top 15, Five in Top 40
Three Indian women are in top 15, five in top 40. GM Harika Dronavalli performed well at Tata Steel Challengers 2024. It was her first Open tournament after four years. She gained 3.2 Elo rating points to move up by one place to World no.11 among Women. IM Divya Deshmukh's debut at the same event earned her 6.7 Elo rating points. She is now World no.38 among Women.
Countries
India is currently at no.2 in terms of average rating of top ten players, 11 Elo rating points behind the USA. The gap got reduced from 15 to 11 from January to February 2024 FIDE Rating list.
