Gukesh returns to World no.6, Arjun stays World no.4
Arjun Erigaisi and D Gukesh maintained their place in World top ten in FIDE Rating list August 2024. After months of non-stop action, Arjun finally took some rest. Thus, his rating remained unchanged. D Gukesh gained a valuable 3.2 Elo rating points at Superbet Chess Classic Romania to move to World no.6. Praggnanandhaa's tough run at 57th Biel Chess Festival GMT dropped him to no.12. Currently, there are four Indians in top 12, five in top 22, six in top 31, seven in top 39 and eleven in top 83. Among the Women, there are three Indians in top 12 and four in top 18. GM R Vaishali moved up to World no.11 and India no.2 among women after her fantastic performance at Biel Festival GMT. The top Indian gainers in August FIDE Rating list are - D Gukesh improved his rank from World no.7 to 6; among Women - GM R Vaishali from World no.14 to 11 and IM Divya Deshmukh moved up from World no. 20 to 18.

Three Indian women are in top 12 and four in top 18. GM Harika Dronavalli gained 11.2 Elo rating points at Isbankasi Turkiye Super League to return to the 2500+ club. GM R Vaishali's fantastic performance at 57th Biel Chess Festival moved her to India no.2 and World no.11 among Women. IM Divya Deshmukh gained 8.2 Elo rating points at the Turkiye Chess League. She is now World no.18 among Women. Currently, there are ten Indians among the top 100 women.
