Your Favourite Things in Chess Challenge on Wildr

by Sagar Shah - 07/12/2023

If you have been following GM Vidit Gujrathi, you would have noticed that he is a big fan of two apps - Black Lotus and Wildr. While the chess community has got to know about Black Lotus as a meditation app, what exactly is Wildr? Well, Wildr is a social media platform but with a difference. It is world's first ever no toxicity social media platform that helps you connect with your friends without worrying about hate, spam, etc. Through this article we want to introduce you to the Wildr App and you can be a part of a challenge where there are softwares (ChessBase 17, Vidit and Gukesh's video course) and Rs.10,000 to be won in prizes.

Vidit Gujrathi and Wildr

I got to know about Wildr from Vidit Gujrathi who was posting his daily recaps on the platform during the FIDE Grand Swiss 2023. That's when I decided to make an account there. Wildr is a social media platform. And one might imagine that it is quite similar to Instagram. However, there is one major difference - it is a toxicity free platform. This means that you can share and connect with your friends without worrying about hate or spam. It's world's first toxicity-free social network.

On the official website of Wildr we have Vidit who speaks about how he has experienced negativity closely on social media and how on Wildr he has found his safe space!

The platform is still in its nascent stages so you won't find as many people on it as Instagram or Facebook or Twitter, but what it helps to build is a closely knit community. And this I could also experience as I started posting on the platform during the Grand Swiss 2023.

With Vidit, Anish, Sagar already on the platform, the number of chess fans in the space is growing!

Apart from the fact that you can create your own profile and make posts with images and videos, Wildr comes with a very interesting feature called Challenges. This is what Vidit created during the Grand Swiss 2023. He called it the 15-day Chess Challenge. One could post anything and everything related to chess in that space.

The 15 day Chess Challenge had 267 people who joined and there were hundreds of posts related to chess!

The Challenge also has its own leaderboard where you can see the posts of different people and also see how many posts they have made! You can see that Vidit had made 13 posts and Mannychess made 26 of them!

Your Favourite Things in Chess Challenge

Taking inspiration from Vidit's 15 day chess challenge, we at ChessBase India have created a new challenge on Wildr. It's called "Your Favourite Things in Chess Challenge"!

The poster of the "Your Favourite Things in Chess"

You can post anything about chess that is your favourite in chess - it could be your favourite player, your favourite book, your favourite opening or your favourite chess channel.

Currently there are no posts, but we are sure that very soon this space will be filled with amazing chess content! :)

Prizes worth Rs.16,000!

The prizes at stake

The first place will get Rs.5000 + ChessBase 17, the second place would get Rs.3000 + Vidit's video course on advanced tactics and calculation, the third place would get Rs.2000 + Gukesh's video course on attack.

How are the winners decided

How are the winners decided? We will take help of the leaderboard inside the app to decide who will win the prize. However, if we find that someone is spamming a lot then naturally that person will not get the prize. There would also be value for good quality posts. So yes, we will take the help of the leaderboard, but the final decision to choose the winner will be done by taking a few other factors into consideration. That being said, making high quantity and high quality posts is definitely the way to win a prize!

Steps to take part in the challenge:

1. Download the app in Android or iOS

2. Create your own profile.

3. Once your profile is created, go to the "Your Favourite Things in Chess" Challenge and click the Join button (This link will work only if you have the Wildr App on your phone)

4. You are now part of the challenge and can post stuff and win prizes!

Long term aim on Wildr

We would love if a community of like minded chess loving people is created on Wildr, where there is no toxicity and the main aim is to spread the love of chess and help each other get better at the sport. This challenge is a step in that direction. We hope that you will join in and have a good time!
