Ramnathan Balasubramaniam dominates 1st HZCA Rapid Rating Open 2024

IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st HZCA Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Dr. Prajwal P Shet and Nihal N Shetty scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹20000 + trophy, ₹13000 + trophy and ₹7000 each respectively. The one-day rapid rating tournament was organized by Haveri Zilla Chess Association on 25th August 2024 at Guru Bhavana in Haveri, Karnataka. Ramnathan wins his fourth tournament of the year

Chiranth M D and IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam were the coleaders 7.5/8, heading into the final round. Darbha Srikara and Chiranth lost to Ramnathan and Dr. Prajwal P Shet respectively. Ramnathan became champion, Prajwal second. Nihal N Shetty defeated Nishanth Dsouza to finish third. 11-year-old Aarush Bhat scored an impressive 7.5/9 to finish sixth. He is the youngest top ten finisher of the event.

IM Ramnathan Balsubramaniam scored an unbeaten 8.5/9, finished a half point ahead of the rest and gained 19 Elo rating points

A total of 277 players including an IM took part from all over the country in this one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Haveri Zilla Chess Association at Guru Bhavana in Haveri, Karnataka on 25th August 2024. The time control of the event was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
