Mitrabha Guha dominates 13th Chess for Youth 2023

GM Mitrabha Guha scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to win 13th Chess for Youth 2023 Premier (Under-25) section. He finished a half point ahead of the field. IM Shahil Dey, IM Aronyak Ghosh and IM Utsab Chatterjee scored 6/7 each. They were placed second to fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund for the Premier section was ₹150000. The first prize was ₹35000 + trophy. Mitrabha inaugurated both first and 13th edition. A little over six year ago, he also won the previous edition with a perfect 7/7 score in Under-16. The reigning National Under-17 Girls champion, Mrittika Mallick became the sole girl to make a top ten finish. She scored 5/7 to finish ninth. The total participation in 13th Chess for Youth combining six age categories witnessed the participation of a GM, six IMs and two WIMs in the Premier (Under-25) category from various parts of India. The tournament was held from 3rd to 5th November at Indian Council for Cultural Relations in Kolkata, West Bengal. Prize distribution ceremony was held on 6th November 2023. The time control for all categories was 20 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
