by Shahid Ahmed - 02/01/2025

CM Md. Reyan (BIH), CM Prathamesh Sherla (MAH) and Pranav Sai Ram R S (TN) scored 9/11 each at 37th National Under-13 Open 2024. Reyan won the tournament due to better tie-break score, Prathamesh and Pranav secured second and third place respectively. Reyan drew with Prathamesh and lost to Pranav. Saranya Devi Narahari (TEL) scored 9/11 to become the champion in the Girls event. She finished a half point ahead of the competition. Four girls - Nivedita V C (TN), Nihira Koul (MAH), Aamuktha Guntaka (AP) and Deekshitha Modipalli (TEL) scored 8.5/11 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively. The total prize fund combining Open and Girls section was ₹800000. The top three prizes in both Open and Girls sections were ₹80000, ₹60000 and ₹48000 along with a trophy each respectively. Extremely close finish

Both Open and Girls sections witnessed closely contested battles. The number of leaders before the final round does not actually define how fierce the competition was. CM Prathamesh Sherla (MAH) and Pranav Sai Ram R S (TN) were the coleaders 8.5/10, heading into the final round. Pranav had a winning opportunity against Prathamesh. A win would have made Pranav a clear champion. Yet, he missed his opportunity and allowed Prathamesh to salvage a draw. Meanwhile, CM Md. Reyan (BIH) regrouped himself after suffering a penultimate round loss against Pranav. He was in a must-win situation against Advik Amit Agrawal (MAH). He won the game and became champion. Prathamesh secured second place ad Pranav third.

In the Girls event, Nivedita V C (TN) was the sole leader 8.5/10, going into the last round. She got herself a decisive advantage against Nihira Koul (MAH). However, she could not seize her chance. Nihira turned things around in her favor and went on to win the game. Vitasta Koul (HAR) also missed her winning chances against Saranya Devi Narahari (TEL). Saranya won that game and became the champion. Despite a last round loss, Nivedita finished second and Nihira third. Speaking of losses, after a sixth round loss against Sravyasree Bheemarasetty (AP), it was winning for Saranya, according to her, she went on to win the next five games in-a-row to finish first.
