Kaustuv Kundu wins 1st BNKU Chess Festival Rapid Rating Open 2024
Five players - IM Kaustuv Kundu, IM Kushagra Mohan, GM Venkatesh M R, IM Neelash Saha and IM P Saravana Krishnan scored 8/9 each at 1st Bharatiya Naveena Kreeda Utsav Chess Festival Rapid Rating Open 2024. Kaustuv won the tournament on tie-breaks. The remaining four were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. Top four remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the festival was ₹1500009, for Rapid rating it was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹20000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The one-day rapid rating open was organized by BNKU Foundation at Icon Public School in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh on 27th October 2024. The participation of 556 players resulted in as many as eleven players in the lead 7/8, before the final round. All of them had decisive results in Round 9. Lokesh N lost to IM Kaustuv Kundu, IM Kushagra Mohan defeated IM Senthil Maran K and Childvilash Sai Surapaneni lost to GM Venkatesh M R. Kaustuv became champion, Kushagra second and Venkatesh third. Every player with a 7/8 score who lost in the final round was placed outside of top ten because those who were at 6.5/8, won their game and surpassed them.

A total of 556 players including three GM and ten IMs took part from various parts of the country, one from Kenya and one from the USA in this one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by BNKU Foundation at Icon Public School in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh on 27th October 2024. The time control of the event was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
