European Club Cup 2022 R1: Gukesh, Harikrishna, Vidit, Arjun and Nihal make a winning start
Vishy Anand played his first rated game since he became the FIDE Deputy President back in August. The maestro is playing for the top team CSU ASE Superbet in the European Chess Club Cup 2022. He drew his game against GM Johann Hjartarsson of Viking Chess Club. D Gukesh is also playing for the same team as Anand. Pentala Harikrishna and Vidit Gujrathi won their games for Novy Bor Chess Club which has won Silver for the past three editions. Harikrishna played in all three of them, while Vidit returns after three years. Arjun Erigaisi and Nihal Sarin also won their respective games for TAJFUN - SK Ljubljana who scored a 6-0 whitewash over Schachfreunde Berlin. European Chess Club Cup is certainly a very big event as the world champion is also taking part for his regular club - Offerspill Chess Club which has only Norwegian players. The world no.1 was held to a draw by GM Nikita Meshkovs of Vammalan Shakkikerho team.

Vishy Anand (2756) was held to a draw by GM Johann Hjartarsson (2468). The rest of the Superbet team members - GM Bogdan-Daniel Deac (2707), GM D Gukesh (2732), GM Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu (2615), GM Gabriel Sargissian (2711) and IM David Gavrilescu (2523) won their respective games.
