Phoenix ChessBase India Chess Club celebrates its 4th anniversary with Rs.500,000 rapid and blitz rating event

On 19th March 2026, the ChessBase India Chess Club at Phoenix Marketcity Mall will complete 4 years. To celebrate this milestone, we are organising the 4th Anniversary Phoenix ChessBase India Chess Club FIDE Rapid and Blitz Tournaments 2026 on 28th February and 1st March at Dublin Square, Phoenix Marketcity Mall, Kurla, Mumbai. Both events are FIDE-rated, with a total prize fund of Rs. 3 lakh for Rapid and Rs. 2 lakh for Blitz. Read on to find all the event details and registration information.

The dream of creating a dedicated Chess Club in Mumbai began with the launch of the ChessBase India Chess Club at Phoenix Marketcity Mall on 19th March 2022. After several wonderful chess tournaments, club sessions, simuls, and lectures, we will complete 4 years on 19th March 2026. To celebrate this occasion, we are announcing the 4th Anniversary Phoenix ChessBase India Chess Club FIDE Rapid and Blitz tournament 2026. This tournament will take place on 28th February and 1st March 2026!

All the details about the 4th Anniversary Phoenix ChessBase India Chess Club FIDE Rapid and Blitz Tournament 2026

Date and Time: The Rapid tournament will start on 28th February 2026, 10:30 AM onwards and continue until 1st March 2026. The Blitz tournament will begin after the completion of the Rapid event on 1st March.

Venue: 1st floor, Dublin Square, Phoenix Marketcity, Mumbai

Address: Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Patelwadi.Kurla, Kurla West, Kurla, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400070.

Time control: Rapid - 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment & Blitz - 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment

Format: 9 rounds swiss Rapid rating tournament. AICF Registration 2025-26 is mandatory for all players. For Maharashtra players, MCA registration is mandatory.

Prize fund: Rs. 3,00,000 for Rapid and Rs. 2,00,000 for Blitz.

Prize structure

The total prize fund of the Rapid tournament is Rs. 3,00,000! The Champion of the tournament will receive Rs. 51,000. There are trophies for the top three finishers. There will be special prizes for different categories - Best unrated, Best veteran player, Best female player, Best specially abled player. Like Rapid tournament, there are rating category and age category prizes in the Blitz tournament as well.

Prize fund of the Blitz tournament is Rs. 2,00,000! The Champion of the tournament will receive Rs. 31,000. There are trophies for the top three finishers! Apart from this, there are various special prizes for different categories - Best unrated, Best veteran player, Best female player, Best specially abled player. There are also rating category and age category prizes!

Entry fee:

Rapid Tournament: Early bird – Rs. 1250 & Regular – Rs. 1500

Blitz Tournament: Early bird – Rs. 750 & Regular – Rs. 1000

Combined (Rapid + Blitz): Early bird – Rs. 1750 & Regular – Rs. 2250

Note: Early bird discount is till 21st February 2026. Entry is free for GMs, WGMs, IMs, WIMs.

Anish Giri vs Vidit Gujrathi Deathmatch in July 2022 happened at the same venue as our 4th anniversary event is going to take place in - the Dublin Square.

In January 2023, Pravin Thipsay, Mumbai's first Grandmaster, felicitated Aditya Mittal, Mumbai's second Grandmaster. Aditya also gave a simul to 10 players.

Tournament Schedule:

The reporting time for all players is 10:30 AM on both days. The Rapid tournament will begin with Round 1 at 11:30 AM on 28th February and conclude with the final round on 1st March. The Blitz tournament will start after the completion of the Rapid event on 1st March.
