15th Chennai GM Open R5-6: Crowded at the top
Nine players are sharing the lead 5/6 after the sixth round of 15th Chennai GM Open 2025. Top seed and India's highest rated IM Aronyak Ghosh got back to winning ways as he defeated CM V Sarveshwaran in Round 6. GM Deepan Chakkravarthy ended FM Rupesh Jaiswal's (NEP) unbeaten streak. 119th seeded Vijay Shreeram P defeated two IMs consecutively - Uurtsaikh Agibileg (MGL) and Sanket Chakravarty. He is the sole untitled player among the leaders' pack. FM Priyanshu Patil had a sharp battle versus IM Mayank Chakraborty in the fifth round. The former could have pushed for the maximum. Vijay Shreeram beats two IMs consecutively
The 15th edition of Chennai Grandmasters Open 2025 has an extremely strong field. Nine players including an untitled, 119th seeded Vijay Shreeram P is in the lead 5/6. The last double round concluded yesterday. The next five rounds are certainly going to witness some tough games.

25.Ne1 Qxh2+ 26.Ng2 is recommended by computer to maintain White's decisive advantage. Instead, Priyanshu Patil (2298) opted for the sharper 25.Bf4 Rxf4 26.d8Q+ Rxd8 27.Qxd8 Rf8 28.Qd3 Qxh2+ 29.Kf1 Qh1+ and IM Mayank Chakraborty (2457) forced a draw via perpetual checks.
GM Duc Hoa Nguyen (VIE, 2358) almost managed to recover a difficult position until he fell into trouble once again against Madhesh Kumar S (2006) and succumbed.

In a difficult position, IM Nitin S (2338) captured the pawn 31.Bxd5?? His opponent, V Sarveshwaran (2150) grabbed the opportunity 31...Nxe5 32.Bxe5 Rf4 33.Bg2 Rxe5+ things completely went into Black's favor and he won the game in a few more moves.
